Chapter Seeking Volunteers for Awards Committee

Each year, at the AMTA Illinois Annual Chapter Meeting, awards are presented to individuals who have been nominated by their peers; recognizing them for their contributions toward the advancement of massage therapy and/or their contributions to AMTA on both the state and national levels. AMTA-IL is seeking volunteer members from throughout the state to be on the Awards Committee.

Volunteering for the Awards Committee is a low key, low stress volunteer position with the chapter, but it is also an exciting endeavor. It’s a unique opportunity that only comes around once a year between January and April, which doesn’t require traveling away from home.

Any AMTA-Il member in good standing is eligible to be on the Awards Committee, and anyone can nominate an individual as well. However, in order to avoid any possible conflict of interest, it is recommended that if one were to nominate someone else, they may want to refrain from volunteering for the Awards Committee position.

Nominations are submitted online and contain biographical data about each candidate along with a short paragraph stating the reason for their nomination. After reading and discussing each nomination form and candidate, the Awards Committee selects by vote, the winning individual. This is done via phone or online conversations with one another.

There are between 5-7 categories in which awards are given. Once the committee makes their selections, the committee and their Board of Directors liaison will seek bids from various trophy vendors to choose which type of award or trophy will be purchased. The Board of Directors liaison then reports to the board at the next meeting and the committee’s job is finished until the next year.
