Massage Consumers and COVID-19
There is no denying that everything is different. No matter where you are in process of navigating the pandemic—whether your massage practice is still closed, you’re preparing to reopen or have reopened—COVID-19 has changed how you are doing business.
From the start, however, there have been some constants. Your passion for the profession, for one. The community of equally dedicated massage therapists who proved time and again that you were all in this together.
And, your clients.
For everything that is uncertain, that massage therapy is beneficial and that massage consumers continue to value both massage and the relationship they have with their massage therapist is solid.
In a recent AMTA consumer survey on massage therapy and COVID-19, of those who indicated they received massage in the past 12 months:
- 72 percent have a high likelihood of going back to the therapist they saw for their last massage.
- 45 percent of massage consumers will look at getting a massage once restrictions are lifted.
More than half of respondents who received a massage in the past year anticipate getting a massage for soreness, stiffness or spasms when they are able to get a massage again, following at 41 percent by respondents anticipating getting a massage for pain relief or pain management.
